As we come towards the end of the year, we will be celebrating our year together with a class party and optional participation in a Kris Kringle exchange of gifts process.
KRIS KRINGLE For Kris Kringle we ask that boys buy a small gift suitable for another boy, whilst girls purchase a small gift suitable for a girl. Participating boys will receive a gift from the 'boy' pile and participating girls will receive a gift from the 'girl' pile. Gifts should be to the value of $10. Participation in Kris Kringle is optional, if you choose not to be involved, that is fine. All gifts need to be at school by Thursday 20th December. Each participant's name will be marked off by the teachers. CLASS PARTY We will be having our class party on Thursday 20th December. Instead of their normal lunch and morning tea, students are asked to bring a small plate of food to share. So that we have a variety of food, we have allocated each House a different type. Please follow our sustainability practices and send the food along in a clearly named container which will be returned to you at the end of the day. Could students in each house please bring:
GENIUS HOUR EXPO We invite all parents and/or grandparents to come along and view our amazing Genius Hour projects on Tuesday 18th December. Our classrooms will have all of our projects on display and the students are eager to explain to you what they have been investigating and learning. Please come along on Tuesday anytime between 2.30-3.45pm. We look forward to a fun celebration together.

It has come to that time of the year that we look towards preparing our Grade 5 students for becoming leaders of the school the following year. All students in Grade 6 are leaders of the school and are expected to exhibit our school values as excellent role models for our younger students. Alongside this, some students will be selected for a specific Grade 6 captaincy role. The selection of these positions follows a set out policy and process. Please read the attached documentation to familiarise yourselves of this process. It would be best to read the 'Parent Letter' document first as an overview. These documents may also be accessed via Compass. Go to: Community (people icon) School Documentation School Community Information Year 6 Student Leadership folder
Well done to everyone for working hard this term. We hope you all have a very relaxing and safe holiday. We look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready to work hard next term. School resumes on Monday 16th July. You have until Friday 20th July to finish your Literature Circles book, which is at the end of the first week of Term 3.
We have been working hard at school to think about our own mathematical investigations for the Maths Talent Quest (MTQ). We have a rubric to follow which outlines the expectations for each section. We have brainstormed ideas for topics and have narrowed it down to one that particularly interests us. We have also thought about mini questions and all the maths we can explore with our given topic. Some of us have chosen to work by ourselves, whilst others have chosen to work with a partner. Our next step is to think about what we need to find out and in what order we need to do things. Our work is expected to be done during class time, but for some of us, we will need to collect some data from home. For example, some of us are looking at how much water we use, so parents may be asked to share a water bill with us, or we may collect some water in a bucket while we are having a shower. All of our tables and surveys will be organised here at school. Our investigations tie into our Sustainability topic for term 2. We plan to have an expo of all of our projects upon completion.
Please see documents below regarding Interschool Sports for Term 2.
This week, the students in Grades 5 & 6 were treated to a free roadshow, ‘Victoria’s Journey of Remembrance’. The show included storytelling, live theatre performances, video and interactive content. A cast of veterans and actors combined history with the lived experiences and emotions of modern military service. The show was produced by Cultural Infusion on behalf of the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Cultural Infusion specialises in productions, projects and programs that act as a bridge to inter-cultural understanding. Some of our writing about this event will feature in the school newsletter this week. Please enjoy reading them.
This morning we had a representative from Doncaster Secondary College visit the school to talk to all of the Grade 5 and 6 students. The session involved hearing about some of the programs offered by Doncaster SC as well as general information about moving to secondary school. Your child will be bringing home a flyer to notify you of Doncaster SC's Open Night on Tuesday 24th April at 6.00pm, should you be interested in learning more about the programs offered.
A reminder to wear RED clothing to school on Monday as part of our whole school Chinese New Year celebrations. We will be visiting the hall for a special Chinese music incursion and we will also be involved in making some Chinese craft.
We have had a little talk at school about deodorant. After recess and lunch play when everyone comes back inside hot and sweaty after running around, our classrooms can be a bit smelly! We have asked the students to have a talk with you about when you think it is right for them to start using a bit of deodorant in the interests of their classmates and teachers. This will obviously be at different times for each student over the Grade 5 and 6 years, but it would be appreciated to be aware of it.
